Choosing a keyboard
Compact or full-size keyboard: plan your desk
A keyboard sits at the centre of a desk, but its layout also needs to leave room for a mouse and paperwork. Start with how you work or play. These three models are options Jess has not tested; this guide does not rank their comfort or performance.

Measure before choosing a layout
Place a sheet of paper where the keyboard will go and keep your normal mouse area clear. Allow room for a notebook or microphone. A compact layout may suit a small desk; if you often enter columns of numbers, account for a number pad too.
Check the keys, not just the system language
A French setting in Windows or macOS does not change the characters printed on the keys. Check photos of the exact variant, the Enter key and the characters you use daily. The keyboard name alone does not guarantee a Canadian French layout.
Three options, three trade-offs
The MX Keys Mini is a compact wireless option; the MX Keys S offers a larger layout for work. The G413 SE is a full-size wired mechanical keyboard. Choose the layout and connection first, then check the exact model. None of these choices alone guarantees a more pleasant typing experience.
Plan connections and daily use
For a wireless keyboard, check computer compatibility, any receiver requirements and what is included. For a wired model, plan the cable route to the port. If noise matters in a shared room, do not infer its level from the word “mechanical”: look for a demonstration of the model and check return terms.
